While in school we learn various uses of trees and also that they are extremely crucial for our survival. However in an urban landscape trees and humans jostle for space.

In a city like Mumbai where the summers are harsh and the winters almost non-existent trees give huge respite to the pedestrians by shielding them from the sun rays.

But in this ever expanding Mumbai city where day by day a crunch of space is felt, the authorities are forced to chop down trees in order to make way either for expanding the roads or for major infrastructure projects.

In such a scenario it gets increasingly difficult to be a pedestrian. Following pictures are from Matunga area which is loved by many for its green cover.

Such sights of disfigured trees are quite common in Mumbai.
