Mr Mackey

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, lived a small tribe. The tribe had a gift, unique to them only. In fact, every member of the tribe possessed that gift; none not of the tribe. The gift, unique to the tribe only, had a special characteristic; that it could never be recalled or its effect so, once put it into effect, that is, it was a very precious gift. Another important feature of the gift was that even if one single being used it, everyone would equally be affected and their gifts be utilized automatically. In light of this, every member was very protective of this gift and would not for once think of using it till its time really had come. Everyone unanimously shared this opinion. The point that is to be noted here is, everyone opined. Everyone opined for himself/herself only. Everyone opined for himself/herself clearly, distinctly, firmly. But, as is the rule of nature of nothing being static for eternity and everything being subject to change, the conservative idea of not using the gift till the direst times arrived had to meet with some kind of rebellion. The rebel, a young bachelor, decided to go against the majority and use his gift. And so it happened, everyone, young or aged, man or woman, born or unborn, got affected alike by the power of the gift and in effect lost theirs too. The rebel had now become the leader. At the very instance of his assuming leadership, he started to chalk out laws unknown to the tribe. He started forming laws that told the populace that every man was equal in the eyes of, his law. His laws instructed the tribe that since everyone was equal, one could not simply pluck flowers and fruits from the orchard, or drink water from the pond as they had used to earlier. His laws stated that one who defaulted by not taking prior permission for acquiring the same would be severely prosecuted against by the unbiased and just panel elected for the same and of which the rebel himself was the supreme. The tribe, without exercising their intellect to the slightest, instantly agreed to this and took pride in the fact that every one of them was henceforth equal. His laws stated this too, that with the view of protecting his unique law system, that made everyone equal, no married couple could thenceforth procreate, because it would lead to increase in the population that would in effect create a need to migrate and hence corrupt the law, his law. His bachelorhood demanded this of his married counterparts, only in their interests and welfare. His law, also justly stated that no one could live in the region without buying the land first, and for doing the latter, one had to give kind in the form of fruits and flowers as payment, to the panel chosen, not elected, and headed by the rebel alone and no one else. The tribe became jubilant at such display of justice. Everyone, to ensure roofs over their heads, started to stand in long queues in front of the panel for acquiring permission to collect flowers and fruits that would be given to the panel itself. The panel, in an unbiased manner, started to sanction and grant permissions to the members of the tribe, one by one; with no doubt regarding the supremacy and final say on such matters, of the rebel. The rebel had detested some people on grounds unknown, since his birth. So, he righteously overruled the permission granted to them by the panel, thereby forcing them to steal fruits and flowers, so that they could still manage to buy land and live in the tribe. But the law, his law, made them guilty in no time, and as the law, his law, demanded, the defaulters were prosecuted and sentenced to death. The crowd became overwhelmed at such display of justice and started to worship the law, the rebel’s law. It also happened, that the panel was in a dearth of funds (here kind), in spite of every fruit and flower of trees, herbs, shrubs been plucked and handed over to the panel. The rebel, thought of declaring an emergency, and hence, without taking the law, his law, into his own hands, declared the same, righteously and honorably, through the commands of the panel. The populace, at once, with blind faith, a faith so immense, obeyed the commands of the panel and started to relinquish their rights over their own lands to the panel, so that the panel may function well and ensure welfare and prosperity, not for themselves but solely for the populace. This happened till there was land enough for ten people only. So , the panel , headed by none other than the rebel , declared Z grade contingency that commanded giving up of lives for the greater good of the society. The crowd’s eyes were in tears at such show of magnanimity. In the time span of less than an hour everybody took to committing suicide only for the greater good of the society. Some drank poison; some drowned themselves, while the rest took to simply swallowing boiling hot coal down their throats. This eventually ended with only ten people surviving, that included the panel, the rebel and some tribesmen. The point to be noted here is that everything was strictly done according to the law, the rebel’s law; only to be practiced further, with greater strictness and conviction. The panel decided that it had been too long since they had formed themselves and governed the tribe. The panel would now be elected with everyone having an equal chance of contention. All of this was done on just a command of the rebel, who wanted to make it crystal clear to the tribe that everybody was equal, nothing more, and nothing less. So, elections were held for raising the panel and the campaigning for the same started in full gusto. The rebel, wooed the electorate of a few people with ease, and his only contender, was forcibly made to contend, by none other than the rebel himself, using the bribe of a guaranteed shelter, to show he was for the people, by the people, of the people. The rebel, upon assuming leadership for a second-time, made additions to the existing set of laws.As per an addition, a grade higher than Z- contingency was declared that told that everyone would be delivered of the hell that they’re living in if they die, and save the tribe of doom and ignominy .The rebel, assured the few people, that if they followed the law, his law, made for their welfare, he too would be redeemed after suffering in the hell, for a while. That had been more than enough persuasion for them to commit suicide in the earlier mentioned ways. The rebel suffered alone till his old age made him succumb and be finally rid of earthly duties. The unique gift couldn’t have been used better. The gift of idiocy, that was unleashed menacingly. It spread idiocy indistinguishably, that made everyone just pure idiots. Nothing less, nothing more. — Susheel Kumar (Guest Post)
