Synopsis
One night, hunger and boredom compels a solitary woman to go on a breezy bicycle ride in this experimental short. She embarks on a journey in search of some comfort food, a popular local delicacy, available at a busy roadside diner. Unexpectedly this external journey quietly ends up guiding her internal journey, leading to a rare discovery of hope and a sense of purpose while navigating some temptations on the way along with a brief encounter with a mysterious neighbour.
Through this film I invite you to witness and engage with a side of Goa rarely seen on the cinematic medium.
In terms of form, this intimate experimental short film attempts to push the boundaries of what can be considered cinema. By combining elements of fiction and non-fiction, it crafts a philosophical enquiry into the significance of cinema in the pursuit of a meaningful life, drawing on the timeless verses of Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet.
Significance of Bread
The film opens with a short illustration of different types of Goan breads. Breads are an inseparable part of the Goan diet. A leftover from Goa’s long Portuguese colonial past. When the Portuguese arrived in Goa they introduced Bread to the people of this land. They even taught them the art of making the tastiest, softest and the freshest bread. It goes really well with the fish, chicken, egg or peas curries. Since then it has become a staple of Goan diet. Every morning and evening local poder (bread maker) goes door to door selling the freshest Poi or Katre Paav or any other variety. Every paav is distinct. And that’s why the protagonist of this film insists on a specific paav when she goes to buy her dinner from the local food cart.
